Are you ready for lifetime experiences? Then come and visit the Algarve! The ALGARVE programme of events will help you fill your free time and liven up those hot summer nights – come and live a unique experience, every day.

Art and Beaches. Does that sound to you like an unusual combination? You no doubt already know all about the Algarve’s beaches... But what if we told you that this summer you could also appreciate some top-class contemporary art after a day spent basking in the sun or even between dips in the sea? The Serralves Foundation and the Coimbra Visual Arts Centre will be bringing all this to the Algarve and to you. Don’t miss their exhibitions in Faro, Loulé and Lagos.

And how about going to a party on the beach? Your refreshing dips in the calm Atlantic water or a day spent sprawling in the sand are the perfect preparation for some really fun-filled nights, with DJs, concerts and festivals. At the Tivoli hotels in Vilamoura and Portimão marinas, you can enjoy all the lifestyle and glamour of St. Tropez, Marbella and Miami as you revel in the luxury and sophistication of Nikki Beach.

But there’s more to the Algarve than just its beaches. Golf is now one the most widely played sports and Portuguese courses are appreciated by golfers from all over the world. This year many of them will be taking part in the Portugal Masters and Nations’ Cup. One of the summer’s great surprises, however, will be when... the carefully tended landscape of the golf courses is transformed into a stage for an intimate musical concert!

And for those who prefer other sounds, there’ll also be classical music and jazz to listen to. The Carmina Burana cantata will be presented for the first time in the Algarve by the São Carlos National Theatre. And there are some really great names heading the bill for the Loulé International Jazz Festival.

The sea also brings music to the ears. And, at Praia da Rocha, it will sound really fantastic when the Portugal Trophy gets under way. For the first time, this world-class sailing event will be including Portugal on the luxury MedCup circuit previously reserved for races and regattas such as the Copa del Rey in Spain. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy all the colour and excitement this event will bring to the region.

We’re set to have an Algarve where anything can happen. Keep your eyes peeled for the ALLGARVE programme and get ready… to enjoy some exciting experiences!

At the end of August, the Nations’ Cup will be bringing some of European Golf’s most talented young players to the Algarve.

From 29 August to 3 September, Europe’s top amateur teams will spend a week competing in the Algarve, in what also promises to be an opportunity for some healthy conviviality in a lively atmosphere. The holding of this international event in the Algarve provides yet further confirmation of the prestige enjoyed by the region, which, besides benefiting from its well-deserved reputation as one of the top destinations for sun and sea holidays in Europe, was also considered by the International Association of Tour Operators specialising in Golf as the world’s best golfing destination in 2005 and 2006.

In August, one of the events of the Breitling Med Cup will be held in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, near Portimão.

This prestigious sailing circuit, constituted by various regattas normally held in the Mediterranean, will move west this year to the Algarve. After the “Copa del Rey” in Palma de Mallorca, the Trophy of Portugal will be staged between August 18 and 25, as the penultimate leg of the Breitling Med Cup that will finish in Hyères (France) in September. Please see the website for more details: www.medcup.org

The Trophy of Portugal's programme includes coastal regattas and windward-leeward competitions that will offer different sailing experiences to those used to more tranquil waters.

The support base for the Breitling Med Cup will be Portimão Marina, equipped with excellent infrastructures and services. The famous Praia da Rocha is right next door, including a vast range of restaurants and attractions, thus guaranteeing excellent relaxation moments between the competitions.

Every August, some of the great names in the world of tennis can be found at Vale de Lobo where they come to play in the Grand Champions event.

This increasingly competitive tournament is part of the Delta ATP Senior Tour Champions, the name of the world veterans’ circuit. Last year’s event was won by the Chilean player Marcelo Rios, who added his name to the impressive list of winners of this tournament, including such famous names as John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Jeremy Bates or Michael Stich.

Over the four days that the Grand Champions tournament lasts, Vale do Lobo will be playing host to tennis fans from all over Europe, who will certainly find in this luxury resort next to one of the Algarve’s most beautiful beaches everything they could possibly need to enjoy the holiday of their dreams.
